Day 5

Subject: [firstname] Here's how to ignore the “naysayers”

Hey [firstname]!

No matter how detailed your plan is, no matter how confident you are that you're going to reach your goals and live the successful life that you know in your heart of hearts has always been your destiny, you're still going to find people who will try to stand in your way or put you off.

Why do they do this?

There are lots of reasons. Some people might try to be “realistic” and protect you from failure and disappointment. Others simply “don't get it” because they simply cannot comprehend WHY you would want what you want in the first place. You can't reason with these “naysayers”, so don't even try.

Others will WANT you to fail.

That's right. Some people, even those you thought you could rely on, will want you to fail. Why? Oftentimes it's because they secretly wanted to transform their own lives in a similar way, but lacked the courage to do it. They figure that if you get disheartened and give up, they won't feel so bad for not trying.

Here's how I deal with “naysayers”.

First of all, when I'm going to make a big change, I distribute information about it on a strictly “need to know” basis. If whatever I'm going to do doesn't impact directly on someone, then they don't need to know and won't get the opportunity to put me off.

Secondly, if I'm going to HAVE to involve other people, or get someone's consent to do what I need to do (the city council if I need a permit, for example), I make sure I have an alternative lined up so my plans won't be derailed if I get turned down. Like I said the other day: When you work backwards from your goal to now, you can easily factor in a “plan B”.

Don't let other people put you off of achieving the successful life that's rightfully yours. It's your life, start living it your way.

Talk soon!
